Got Milk?

8 comments:

  1. 1. INTIAL REACTIONS:
I notice how strong Super Man is first. Super Man catches my attention. The image is familiar to me. I have seen it on posters around my work and school. It makes me feel like I should drink milk if I want to be strong like super man. It makes me think about Milk :]

    2. VISUAL ELEMENTS AND IMPORTANT DETAILS:
The colors are bold and vibrant. The White stands out to promote the Milk. The Focal points are Super Man, the milk mustache and the GOT MILK logo. This image uses contrast.. to contrast the white milk with the colors of Super Man.

    3. CONTEXT AND HISTORY: ? I couldn't find where we got the picture from.. Let me know :)

    4. PROCESS TO CREATE:
This is a photograph. All GOT MILK posters such as this are photographs. They all show some sort of recognizable character with a milk mustache.

5.Visual texts often produce immediate, emotional reactions. In light of your detailed analysis, go back and reconsider your first impressions. Does your analysis reinforce your impressions? Yes. This add is simplistic.. which is also what makes it stand out. The slogan is catchy and memorable.

  2. My first thought of this picture is how milk can make you strong and powerful like a superman. Superman stands in the clouds with his arms folded with a milk mustache. Because he is superman that makes him well know. By looking at this picture it would make one seem that by drinking milk it can make them strong and powerful like superman.

The background of this picture is a plain cloud setting. This allows the image of superman with his milk mustache stand out more. With the cloud scenary it makes it seem that you can be above all. (Like the most powerful.)

  4. Record your initial reactions- i believe when people look at this picture they will think if they drink milk they will become strong and powerful like superman. What catches my eye the most would have to be superman himself and his milk mustache. He appears to be flying in the air.You also notice the catchy slogan.

Explore the visual elements and identify important details- The colors are very bold and noticable. The picture is more focused on superman himself rather then the background. The colors and lighting make him appear more loudly. The milk mustache represents him drinking milk.

Consider the context and history of the image-This particular ad came out in the May 2006 issue of Blender which was directed by Bryan Singer.Brandon Routh was the featured superman. Superman is a fictional character, a comic book superhero appearing in publications by DC Comics, widely considered to be an American cultural icon. Other milk ads from different countries portey the milk ad a little bit differently. For example the German ad for milk uses the tongue and not the mustache.

Consider the process used to create the image- This ad was taken with a camera and edited to make the message appear bolder. They made some colors bright and some duller.Rather then drawing it the photograph makes it more realistic and believable.

Reconsider your initial reactions- I believe my first reaction was correct.I feel most people would connect to my way of thinking with this ad. The slogan is very catchy and easy to remember.

  6. Obviously this campaign is trying to send out a messgae: Milk does a body good. They have used Superman as a role model for many years, and have now incorporated milk into the same category.

Here we have Superman, who has a milk mustache, looking strong & mighty. As if to say that if we drink milk, we will be superheroes. But he's standing up & there's an upright shadow on the clouds... Possibly telling us that we shouldn't try to fly, stop crime, break things, etc... All because we drank milk. Hence the fact that it states, "even if you're not from Krypton, you can have bones of steel."

The movie "Superman Returns" was debuted in 2006, as well as this campaign.
There isn't any real info on this campaign except when it came out & who/what (Brandon Routh & his milk mustache) is in the picture.
This website has differnt comments on it, but no in-depth info:

I also researched gotmilk.com. I'm guessing since the ad is from 5 years ago, they no longer have specific info on this particular advertisement.

  7. Found some findings on my answer.

Brandon Routh is the superman in this image. And this image was created by Bryan Singer. This image appeared in the May 2006 issue of Blender. The purpose of the image is to persuade the audience to think that milk can make you strong and powerful like superman. It also has a catchy sloagn to go along the the image.
